ONS Travel and Tourism figures - Barclays comment

Mike Saul, Head of Hospitality and Leisure at Barclays, comments on today's ONS Travel and Tourism figures:

"With the relative strength of sterling making European travellers think twice about heading to the UK, not even the pomp and ceremony of the Queen’s Jubilee could stop June’s tourist numbers dwindling.

“There was a silver lining for outbound operators though as more Brits took to the skies in search of sunshine, encouraged by the late and additional bank holiday. June’s rise looks set to continue into the rest of the summer months with operators reporting a rise in last minute bookings for foreign breaks. The top choice remains all inclusive packages as holidaymakers continue to seek value for money.”
