Barclays appoints Chief Operations and Technology Officer

Barclays has appointed Michael Harte as Chief Operations and Technology Officer.

Michael will join Barclays reporting to Group Chief Executive, Antony Jenkins. He will be a member of the Group’s Executive Committee.

Michael is currently Group Executive of Enterprise Services and Chief Information Officer at the Commonwealth Bank of Australia Group (CBA). Prior to CBA, he held Chief Information Officer, IT and Operations and Technology roles at PNC Financial Services and at Citigroup.

Commenting on the appointment, Antony Jenkins, said: “I am delighted to announce the appointment of Michael to the post of Chief Operations and Technology Officer.

“Given Michael’s wealth of experience, he is ideally placed to lead the transformation of the Barclays Operations and Technology function and its continued focus on customer innovation, digital services and process automation. Technology is at the heart of our Transform agenda and will play a critical role in helping us achieve our goal of becoming the ‘Go-To’ bank.”

  • Michael has been responsible for O&T operations at Commonwealth Bank of Australia Group (CBA) since 2006 where he was responsible for group-wide retail and institutional banking systems and operations, brokerage, wealth and asset management systems.
  • Prior to that, worked as Executive Vice President, CIO at PNC Financial Services, where he was responsible for re-organising the O&T function and deploying a new Global Enterprise Platform.
  • From 1996 – 2001 was Vice President, Information Technology at Citigroup, focusing on emerging markets and systems integration in both London and New York.
